About My Blog

The cause of this blog is to encourage girls to do science because there seems to be something that holds them back to do so. And to keep you updated about interesting science news, physics news in particular.

More information about it you can find in this post.

About Me

I could tell you my name is Sienke Gielen and I am 22 years old, but there is a lot more to know about me.

I have a little sister of 19, and I am so proud of her for going to college, and the cutest little brother, even though he is 14 already. Our father left us when I was nine and my mother went ill. It were some tough years taking care of them but I also enjoyed it. Six years later my mother decided to leave me as well and she took my brother and sister with her. In the beginning I was overwhelmed by loss, but soon I saw the new possibilities.

I wanted to become an engineer, a pilot or maybe even an astronaut, but soon I realized that I wasn’t following the right courses in high school. I had only a few hours mathematics and no science related subjects at all. But my father wanted to help me financially with my higher education and so I tried.

Because I went out to much in the first semester and became ill in my second semester, my first college experience wasn’t a success. I decided that college was to hard for me so I applied for a job and worked for two years. Then I regained my self confidence and without anyone believing it was the right thing to do I went to college again still dreaming to do some great things. And I am doing well!

What I am actually trying to say is, no matter what happens or what people may say, when you believe you can do it and you are willing to do everything for it, just go for it and shine!  Let nothing hold you back!
